I agree with your comments about encouraging new design in the area. We can't recreate the past but instead need to encourage high quality contemporary architecture that is sensitive to its surroundings. The Haringey conservation team clearly think conservation means legoland barratt style housing. We need clear design guidelines setting out what good development means for the borough - without these individuals ill informed views of individuals take over and designs such as the avbove are the inevitable consequence.

We shouldnt be pointing the finger at the owners for the above house but questioning the fitness for purpose of the current conservation dept in Haringey who will have encouraged the owner to build in this style - see the new house going up on Ferme Park Road - another example of mediocre design.

We need detailed design guidelines - every other borough has them.

Myself and my family moved from (finsbury park)to muswell hill in 1986 and back then we had none of this conservation rubbish.Finsbury park was fine until the self proclaimed middle class brigade took up residence in the area, and started all this (stroud green)business. Now i know this is the areas real name but lets be real here nobody uses that name. The problem is is that everywhere these...ahem...middle class people move to they have to try to change it,if developers want to develope finsbury park then let them and stop trying to keep the area as some kind of wierd village like crouch end and muswell hill.WE the normal people want progress, new features and new designs in the area.If these people want a village feel then move to cornwall, and leave the rest of us to it.And as for the parkland walk it is scruffy, hard to police, too muddy, crime riddled and a total waste of land. It's ok to say there is lot's of wildlife there but hold on,no matter when you walk there you see nothing WHAT WILD LIFE.I say turn it into a light railway and put the land to good use.
