We can't recreate the past but instead need to encourage high quality contemporary architecture that is sensitive to its surroundings. The Haringey conservation team clearly think conservation means legoland barratt style housing. We need clear design guidelines setting out what good development means for the borough - without these individuals ill informed views of individuals take over and designs such as the avbove are the inevitable consequence. We shouldnt be pointing the finger at the owners for the above house but questioning the fitness for purpose of the current conservation dept in Haringey who will have encouraged the owner to build in this style - see the new house going up on Ferme Park Road - another example of mediocre design.
